What is a square wave
- A square wave is a periodic waveform that switches between two levels (for example +A and −A, or “on” and “off”) with instantaneous transitions.
- It’s one of the basic waveforms in electronics, signal processing, music synthesis etc.
What is shown in the image
- The waveform alternates between two fixed levels: a high value and a low value.
- The changes between high ↔ low are almost instantaneous (vertical transitions), there’s no gradual ramp.
- For equal time at high and low, giving a 50% duty cycle (the wave spends equal time high and low) — at least in the picture it looks symmetric.
