⚡ What is Lockout/Tagout?

• LOTO = Lock + Tag on equipment during repair, servicing, or maintenance.
• Prevents unexpected startup or release of hazardous energy.
• Required under OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.147.
• Protects electricians, machine operators, laborers, and other workers.

• Creates an Electrically Safe Work Condition (NFPA 70E).
• De-energizes circuits and conductors before work.
• Prevents shocks, arc flashes, and electrical fires.
• Steps include: disconnect → lock & tag → verify absence of voltage → ground (if needed).

✅ Basic Lockout/Tagout Steps

1. Prepare – Identify all energy sources.
2. Shut Down – Turn off the equipment.
3. Isolate – Disconnect from power source.
4. Lock & Tag – Apply locks and warning tags.
5. Verify – Test to confirm no voltage is present.
6. Ground (if required) – Add temporary grounding for safety.

• Use correct fuses, insulation, and circuit protection.
• Install GFCIs to prevent shocks.
• Never work with wet hands or in damp areas.

• If someone is shocked → don’t touch them directly.
